Bobby Fischer passed away last Thursday, January 17, in Reykjavik, Iceland, in the same city where he took his name to new heights 36 years ago. After a long illness he died of kidney failure. He was 64 years old, the same number of squares of the chessboard. He is considered to be one of the greatest chess player in the history of this sport.
.
Dr. Max Euwe wrote in his book "Bobby Fischer -The Greatest?", 1979, that "it is much more interesting to compare Fischer with Lasker, Capablanca, and Alekhine than with some of the living ex-world champions who have played with Fischer over the board." (This book was written in 1979 so Gary Kasparov has not appeared yet in the chess world).
.
His personality was sometimes unconventional bordering the paranoia. It looks that as a child he was not raised properly by his mother & later he was a high school dropout. This may explain his outbursts & sometimes abnormal behavior later in his life.
