Hurricane Bertha is the first hurricane of the 2008 season. It is located 975 miles (1570 Km.) southeast of Bermuda, in the Atlantic. It has been downgraded from category 3 to category 2. So far it doesn't represent any danger to land. See map above.

The deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history were in Galveston, Texas, 1900. In Florida in 1928 and the Florida Keys in 1935. Hurricane Audrey in 1957, and maybe hurricane Katrina in 2005.
