. The above pictures show the Miami Beach police searching for a suspect in Washington Avenue between 9 and 10 street, South Beach. This incident happened last Tuesday, July 15. The northbound lane of Washington Avenue was closed by the police while they were searching for the suspect. As I got off the bus I found the police in their searching activities that included looking on the roofs of the stores. I was able to take the above pictures with my digital camera that doesn't have a zoom lens. No arrests were made.

En las fotos de arriba aparece la policia de Miami Beach buscando a un sospechoso en la Avenida Washington entre las calles 9 y 10, en South Beach. Este incidente ocurrio el pasado martes, 15 de julio. La carrilera de la Avenida Washington que va hacia el norte fue cerrada por la policia mientras conducia la busqueda del sospechoso. Al bajarme del autobus me los encontre en sus operativos de busqueda que incluyo el mirar en los techos de las tiendas. Pude tomar las fotos con mi camara digital que no tiene un lente zoom. No hubo arrestos.

Presidential Elections in U.S.A.

Senator Barack Obama will face a big hurdle in the presidential race for the White House. Most white Americans believe that he is a demagogue rather than a politician with honest intentions to solve the problems of the nation. His comments in the past that many white blue collar workers like "to cling to guns and the Bible" have created resentment among them. They also dislike his wife Michelle and only 24 percent would like to see her as the First Lady. There are white people that just don't want blacks being on the top of the political power. Only 37 percent of white voters support Senator Obama while 46 percent support Senator McCain.

With black voters the picture is different. 89 percent of African-Americans support Senator Obama. Hispanics that were strongly supporting Senator Hillary Clinton probably will favor now Senator Obama.

Since white population is 82 percent and black population is only 13 percent (*) Senator Obama will have to use his best abilities as a politician to unite the American people and convince them to vote for political issues and not for the color of the skin.

El senador Barack Obama se enfrentará a un obstáculo muy grande en la carrera presidencial a la Casa Blanca. La mayoría de los americanos de la raza blanca creen que es un demagogo y no un político honesto con intenciones de resolver los problemas de la nación. Sus comentarios en el pasado de que a muchos obreros blancos les gusta "apegarse a las armas y a la Biblia" han creado un resentimiento entre ellos. También a los americanos blancos les desagradan su esposa Michelle y sólo el 24 por ciento le gustaría verla a ella como la Primera Dama. Hay gente blanca que simplemente no quieren que los negros esten en la cima del poder politico. Sólo el 37 por ciento de los votantes blancos apoyan al Senador Obama mientras que el 46 por ciento apoyan al senador McCain.

Con los votantes negros el panorama es diferente. El 89 por ciento de los afroamericanos apoyan al Senador Obama. Los hispanos que apoyaban firmemente a la senadora Hillary Clinton probablemente apoyaran ahora al Senador Obama.

There is a pessimistic feeling about the U.S. economy in some circles of the government. President Bush in an unschedule news conference last Tuesday recognized that the economy is going through hard times. However he emphasized that "the economy continues growing, consumers are spending, business are investing, exports continue increasing and American productivity remains strong.".
Mr. Ben S Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, testifying before the Senate Banking Committee, gave a more bleak picture of the economy.

La Economia.

Hay un sentimiento pesimista sobre la economía de los EE.UU. en algunos círculos del gobierno. El Presidente Bush en una conferencia de prensa no planeada previamente reconocio el pasado martes que la economía está atravesando tiempos difíciles. Sin embargo, destacó que "la economía sigue creciendo, los consumidores están gastando, las empresas están invirtiendo, las exportaciones siguen en aumento y la productividad de América sigue siendo fuerte."

El Sr. Ben S Bernanke, presidente de la Reserva Federal, en su testimonio ante el Comité Bancario del Senado, dio un panorama más sombrío de la economía.

Latin America - Cuba.

President Raul Castro has been making lately cosmetic political changes in Cuba. He has allowed the sales of cellphones and computers that the large majority of Cubans cannot afford to buy. Besides, the access to the internet is restricted to few people.

The skyrocket prices of food worldwide has hit Cuba very hard. This has made Mr. Raul Castro government to reconsider some economic principles established in Marxism. The Cuban government is the largest landowner in the island and food production by farmers working for the state is sluggish. Consequently a refom is in the way to give plots to private farmers in order to boost food production. The new plan was officially announced last Friday, July 18. For the Cuban people that for the last fifty years have lived with a food rationing card that won't mean much.

America Latina - Cuba.

El Presidente Raúl Castro ha estado haciendo últimamente cambios políticos cosmeticos en Cuba. Ha permitido las ventas de teléfonos móviles y ordenadores que la gran mayoría de los cubanos no pueden darse el lujo de comprar. Por otra parte, el acceso a Internet está restringido a muy pocas personas.

Los precios de los alimentos, que se han disparado por las nubes por todo el mundo, han golpeado muy fuertemente a Cuba. Esto ha hecho que el gobierno del Sr. Raul Castro este reconsiderando algunos principios economicos establecidos en el Marxismo. El gobierno cubano es el mayor terrateniente de la isla y la producción de alimentos por parte de los agricultores que trabajan para el Estado es muy bajo. Por consiguiente una reforma se esta llevando a cabo en la forma de dar las parcelas a agricultores privados con el fin de incrementar la producción de alimentos. El nuevo plan se anunció oficialmente el pasado viernes, 18 de julio. Para el pueblo cubano que durante los últimos cincuenta años ha vivido con una tarjeta de racionamiento de alimentos esto no va a significar mucho.
