His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI arrived to the United States last Tuesday, April 15, in an Apostolic Visit to the United States for six days.

He already had a meeting with some victims of sexual abuse made by some pedophile priests. This thorny and shameful issue for the Church was discussed with sincerity and courage by the Pope and the victims of sexual abuse whose lives have been traumatized for ever. In the legions of clergymen there have always been a few of them to go astray. However the large majority of the clergy remain faithful to their vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience. The main purpose of Pope Benedict XVI visit to the United States was his speech in the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly sixty years ago at Palais de Chaillot, Paris. The pope argument in the General Assembly was that "the promotion of human rights remains the most effective strategy for eliminating inequalities between countries and social groups, and for increasing security." The pope also said that "the will of the wider international community was being dominated by that of a few powers." He argued that the UN should be the "moral centre" of world affairs. He made his opinion clear about the value of human rights and the standing of the United Nations.

Saint Thomas Aquinas stated that Natural Law was one form of the Divine Reason, and that Human Law was only legitimate as long it harmonized with the Natural Law. This principle later evolved into Natural Rights as Catholic philosopher Jacques Maritain asserted although there are some disagreements in this respect. Thus the interest of Pope Benedict XVI in human rights in the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the United Nations.

Su Santidad el Papa Benedicto XVI llegó a los Estados Unidos el pasado martes, 15 de abril, en una visita apostólica a los Estados Unidos durante seis días.

Él ya tuvo una reunión con algunas de las víctimas de abuso sexual hechas por algunos sacerdotes acusados de pedofilia. Esta espinosa y vergonzosa cuestion para la Iglesia fue discutida con sinceridad y valentía por el Papa y las víctimas de abuso sexual cuyas vidas se han visto traumatizados para siempre. En las legiones de clérigos siempre han habido algunos de ellos que han tomado una conducta desviada. La Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos fue aprobada por la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas sesenta años atrás en el Palacio de Chaillot, de París. El tema que presento el Papa en la Asamblea General fue que "la promoción de los derechos humanos sigue siendo la estrategia más eficaz para eliminar las desigualdades entre países y grupos sociales, y para aumentar la seguridad." El Papa dijo también que "la voluntad de la comunidad internacional está dominada en general por la voluntad de unas pocas potencias". Sostuvo que la ONU debe ser el "centro moral" de los asuntos mundiales. Dio su opinión clara sobre el valor de los derechos humanos y la posición de las Naciones Unidas.

Santo Tomas de Aquino declaró que la Ley Natural es una forma de la razón divina y que la ley humana es sólo legítima siempre que armonice con la Ley Natural. Este principio más tarde evolucionó hasta convertirse en los derechos naturales tal como el filósofo católico Jacques Maritain afirmó a pesar de que existen algunos desacuerdos en este sentido.
